Frequently Asked Questions

What is your fee to handle a CRA audit? 2018-05-21T14:27:07+00:00

Our fee is on a case by case basis. But we are proud to say that with our hands-on experience and proactive approach in handling Audits, our fees are very reasonable as compared to other professional tax firms providing the same level of service. CRA Audit fees are difficult to quote over the phone, but when you bring us the letter from the CRA and your paperwork, we can quote you fixed fees upfront. Our fees normally depend on few things e.g. volume of your business, how organized your paperwork is, your timely response to us and if any previous work was done on your file.

Are you a Chartered Accounting firm? Do I need a Chartered Accounting firm to do my taxes or to deal with the Canada Revenue Agency? 2020-07-16T22:28:36+00:00

We are not a Chartered Accounting firm. The founder has a Bachelors in Accounting with major in Taxation,  years of hands-on experience preparing personal & corporate taxes and handling Audits. We have colleagues and mentors who are Chartered Accountants and we work with them closely and believe in team work. You do not necessarily need a Chartered Accounting firm to do your taxes or help you with CRA Audits. That is your personal choice. What you definitely need is someone with the right education, years of experience and a proactive approach to deal with the Canada Revenue Agency.

Whenever I ask my Accountant any questions, rather than educating and guiding me, he just takes me lightly and does not respond to me, but keeps increasing his fees every year. 2018-05-21T14:18:41+00:00

This is the biggest difference between our Accounting firm and others. We believe in educating the client. We answer all your questions to the point where you are fully satisfied. We prepare you and guide you, right from what documents to keep, to what documents a CRA Auditor would want to see when they audit you, while making it easier for you in case you get that letter or call from the CRA. We are always with you to answer the CRA and submit documents on your behalf. We do not increase our fees every year, but if you require any additional services, we would inform you about our fees upfront.

What is a Voluntary Disclosure Program (commonly referred to as VDP). How does it help me? Will the CRA audit me because I am filing under Voluntary Disclosure Program? 2018-05-21T14:27:40+00:00

The Voluntary Disclosures Program gives you a second chance to change a tax return you previously filed or to file a return that you should have filed. It allows you to apply to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) to ask for relief of prosecution and penalties.

CRA does not have a policy of auditing taxpayers because they are filing under VDP. VDP is to encourage taxpayers to report what should have been reported in the first place. The VDP is a totally separate program from audit program. If the CRA starts auditing because taxpayers are disclosing their personal information to CRA, then the intent behind VDP would fail and no one will come forward and use VDP.

I am being harassed by CRA collection officers. They are threatening me to pay an unreasonable amount in full and have now put a lien on my bank account and started garnishing my wages. 2018-05-21T14:21:46+00:00

We understand the feeling when the CRA collection officers start harassing you as many of our clients in the past have told us. CRA collection officers are obliged to take these steps and use any available means to collect any money owed to the CRA. It is just impossible to live when you have a lien on your bank account and when you are not getting a complete paycheque. We first review your case, find out the reasons which led to these circumstances and eventually, after discussing with you, either file the actual or amended returns, file a Notice of Objection or Appeal or in many case make instalment arrangements with collection officers so they can stop garnishing your wages. But the best solution to this problem is a proactive approach. Instead of hiding and ignoring CRA letters and calls. Let’s face them and cooperate with them. Call us. We can help.

I haven’t filed my taxes for the past 10 years and the CRA never requested me to file? Should I just keep quiet? 2018-05-21T14:23:47+00:00

If the CRA never contacted you or you think CRA never contacted you to file your tax returns (corporate or personal), it does not mean you can close your eyes and CRA will not say anything. In many occasions, it is in your best interest to file those returns asap and be up to date. Otherwise, the CRA will come after you, arbitrarily assess your returns and now you would owe a lot of money to the CRA, which you may not have owed if you filed your returns on your own. Penalties and interest can be waived in certain cases. Please contact us for further information.

Since I am filing my taxes late, will the CRA now audit me because I am late and my file will be red flagged? 2018-05-20T03:46:34+00:00

No, you will not be audited because you are filing late. But, you will be subject to penalties and interest if you end up owing to CRA. The late filing penalty is 5% and interest is 1% per month of balance owing. But if you were very sick, or had other serious circumstances beyond your control which led you to file late, penalties and interest can be waived. Please contact us for further information.

I am getting audited by the Canada Revenue Agency and my previous Accountant refused to help me and is not responding in a timely manner. 2018-05-21T14:28:17+00:00

We often hear and we specialize in Audit Resolution. We will review your file and letter from CRA and we will start working on your file immediately. We will call Canada Revenue Agency Auditors to inform them that we are your representative for the audit purposes and initial point of contact for the Auditor and if your audit requires an extension we would request the Auditor so we can better prepare your file and do any pending work on the file.
